Wyandottes are an American made breed. They come in a variety of beautiful colors. Here at Chicken Creek we currently have 3 different color varieties. Gold Laced, Silver Laced, and Blue Laced Red. All of our Wyandottes, with the exception of our Gold Laced, have come from Jerry Foley’s Line. In fact our foundation breeding stock was bought directly from Mr. Foley himself when we visited him at his farm. Our Gold Laced Wyandottes are from Duane Urch’s Line.

Understanding the colors of Blue Laced Reds ~ I always thought a 'Blue-Laced Red Wyndotte' was dark blue with mahogany. I had seen the light power blue birds, but thought they were of a different quality. Come to find out ... there are three colors in the 'Blue-Laced Red Wyndotte' (also called just 'BLR').
There are 3 colors - blue, black and splash (splash is also known as 'sport'). We have all 3 colors in our breeding program. And how they breed is similar to many other chicken breeds that have a blue / black / splash color. The black birds are called 'Black-Laced Red Wyndottes'. The 'Black-Laced' are truely part of the 'Blue-Laced Red' variety. If you breed blue to blue (ie. a blue hen to a blue rooster), you need to breed back to a black every other generation (to every three generations) to keep the dark blue color. The splash variety is a light powder blue with the same dark mahogany.
